Show Cars & trucks line up at the Entrance to our 27th Annual Auto Meet… THANKS to EVERYONE who came by !!!
JUNE 2006 SECRETARY’S – Prior to our June meeting, many members arrived with their antiques to have a photo
taken for the Montachusett T&G Section of the Worcester Telegram & Gazette. Our picture was taken by ANNA GRIFFIN and she wrote an article about our Fathers Day Show which appeared in the Sunday, June 11th issue.
The June monthly meeting was held at the CIVIC CENTER Monday June 5th. Since our President and our Sunshine Lady were in Nevada on a well earned vacation, our Club Vice-President TJ BLAUSER opened the meeting at 7:00 PM. He then asked for a moment of silence for our departed members, our armed forces and especially for our recently departed member, DUANE HOAGLUND. There were 44 members and one guest present. Our guest was RAYAN MOHIUDDIN of the Leominster CTE who was one of the two students selected for a scholarship for our Annual Automotive Award. RAYAN received a very warm ovation from the members. Our second recipient was JOHN LEBLANC from Monty Tech. The reading of the minutes of last month meeting by our Secretary MARTY was waived as these minutes appeared in last month’s Newsletter. TJ then asked if there were any additions or subtractions to be made to the report that appeared in the last Newsletter. Our VP then called on our Treasurer TOM for his Financial Report. The Minutes and Finance Report were accepted, as published, by the members present. TOM reported – “All plans are GO for our Father’s Day Car Show, Sunday June 18th. We need members on the day before the Show to help fill our “Goody Bags. We need you there at 9AM” VP TJ reminded the members that we will be in a different meeting place for our July and August meeting. We’ll be meeting at the Stone Haven Restaurant on John Fitch Highway (the former home of the AMVETS). FTCHBRG–BLOCK PARTY & JUL 4th PARADE– TJ BLAUSER gave us the lowdown on Fitchburg’s Downtown Block Party on FRIDAY June 30th … and the Independence Day Parade on Tuesday, July 4th. TJ talked about the Downtown Block Party to be held on Main St. Fitchburg. It’ll have the static display of antique vehicles, a Sock Hop, Golden Oldies, and our own GIBBY LASHUA with his Accordion, a Chicken Bar-B-Que, Food Vendors and Ethnic Foods.. Our VeeP also said that the Fitchburg July 4th Parade will start at 10 AM. We need to be at the St. Bernard’s Elementary School Driveway at 254 Summer St. at 9 AM. TJ will be handling the Antique Car Division. We’ll be at the head of the Parade again this year. TJ also reminded the members of our coming events which are listed in the newsletter. .Ice Cream Runs which usually take place on weekdays and not on Page 4 weekends usually depart from across the Street from Burger King’s on John Fitch Highway. As a rule we leave there at 6PM. BUD & NANCY ARBO promised us that they would take us “Somewhere Sweet” for their Ice Cream Run on Wednesday July 19th . STEVE PADOVANO is going to set up an Ice Cream Run for a Sunday since many members can’t make a run during the week and would like to participate. Where are we going, STEVE ?? RAY RATHIER spoke about the run to Wright’s Chicken Farm. The price is now $10.25 per serving. Ray will provide each car with a detailed map. He said we’ll be leaving around 10AM from in front of the West Fitchburg Restaurant & Pizzeria, at 226 Westminster St. SKIP SULLIVAN spoke about the Monadnock Oldies Car Show in Jaffrey, NH. To be held July 29. It’ll be the same as last year. TJ reminded the members that this year the Wachusett Old Car Club will be at a new location at MONTY TECH on August 6th . TJ conducted a Tech Issues & Questions Session. MO said he is having trouble registering his ’37 Austin Tourer. He received lots of good advice from several members and thanked the members for their suggestions. ATTENDANCE PRIZE – DENNIS GOYETTE’S name was drawn for the evening attendance prize but was not there to collect his $20. Next month the prize goes up to $30. Remember you can only win if you are at the meeting – so come on down! 50/50 DRAWING – LEE TUCKER was our lucky winner. Meeting adjourned around 9:15PM. Our many, many thanks to ANITA WINTERS for handling our refreshments. God Bless America
MEMBERS IN THE NEWS and OTHER STUFF…
KIT TUCKER – One of our Mid-State Charter members recently started his work day off with a little bit of excitement. Main Street Hero – Citizen makes arrest. Business owner runs down, restrains alleged store burglar – reads the local June 1 edition of the Sentinel & Enterprise. The paper reports: It was early, 6:30AM, KIT was coming to work after an early game of tennis, still had his sneakers on – they’re fast sneakers, KIT said – and saw a man standing in front of a broken store window with a couple bags of stuff under his arm and the alarms going off. So, he did what anyone in that situation would do … he chased him down the street, calling 911 on his cell phone as he ran. Police showed up, arrested the alleged burglar and KIT went off to work. Just another day at the office, huh ??? WOW … KIT, what a way to stay in shape !!! NEW BUSINESS CARD ADVERTISERS - We have been adding some new business cards in the Back Pages. MARY & KEN BURCHSTEAD wrangled in Paul Valente, PC, RAY RATHIER signed up F & M Towing out of Gardner / Westminster area, STEVE PADOVANO recruited the restaurant STONEHAVEN – the same place we will meet for July and August; and KIT TUCKER has his Roux Travel and Tucker Tours business card in our Back Pages. Thanks to everyone on our last two pages – we are able to pay our bills, run a pretty slick newsletter and pull off a financially successful Annual Auto Meet – year after year !!!. HILDENE CAR SHOW- Manchester, VT - FRED GIROUARD & SUE SLAVIN and BOB & MARTHA LEAHY recently attended the Hildene Car Show in Manchester, VT. BOB & MARTHA won First Place in their Class with their ’56 Ford Victoria. FRED & SUE won First Place as well as the Participant Highlight Award (Best of Show) and also took home the Goodguys Rod and Custom Award with SUE’S ‘61Chevy Impala Convert. Way to Go, gang!!! GUEST SPEAKERS FOR MEETINGS – We have a couple lined up; still could use others, see us if you can

Tony Palmieri of Palmieri Concepts will be our Guest Speaker for our July meeting – hopefully someone told him we are meeting at the STONEHAVEN Restaurant !!! These guys do the Show boards that we see at Car Shows and Cruises; Magnets, T-Shirts and other automotive – related photography; also they have a pretty nice website at www.palmiericoncepts.com. … check them out on the web before the meeting. Club member GERRY MARTEL of Martel’s Classic Carriages says he’s got some new stories as well as some old ones. He wants to share them with us. Looks like he will be our guest speaker for the October or November meeting. We have had him talk to us before and he always is really entertaining. Don’t miss this. And - talking about pretty nice websites – GERRY just spent some of his moldy old money on a new website www.collectorcarappraiser.com check that one out … it’s a Deusey !!!... (Deusey…Deusenberg…Get it ???).
OUR GOODY BAGS AND DOOR PRIZES - were over whelming this year !!! We packed over 250 Goody Bags thanks MATTRESS CLOUD - and gave out more than 100 Door Prizes during the Show. Thanks to our members and their friends, we were able to keep just about everyone who came to our show happy with FREE STUFF. Here’s a list of those who pitched in with stuff for our Door Prize table (compiled by JOANNE GELINAS – who, with GARY, did a fantastic job manning the tables in the Sunday heat, as well as ANITA who did the Other Sales Tables): KEN & MARY BURCHSTEAD, PAUL SMART, FRED & SUE, MO & PAT, TOM, BRUCE, ANITA, SAL DiFORTE, BUD’S AUTO CARPETS, GARY REED, GARY & JOANNE, including 5 - $10 gift certificates for STONEHAVEN in Fitchburg thanks to STEVE P. of Padovano Insurance Agency. JUNE 18 – 27th ANNUAL FATHER’S DAY CAR SHOW WRAP-UP - What a show it was!!! There were 230 cars registered and more came after the close of registration. The weather was super HOT at 92 degrees and HUMID. It was great having so many people helping both Saturday morning and all day Sunday.
The Special Needs Boy Scout Troop sold 50 / 50 tickets and all the proceeds went to their program. They collected over $150 and were very happy. We need to improve on that with a better set up with better exposure. For next years show, we will invite the Fitchburg Boys & Girls Cub to participate. We learned a lot from our previous shows and encountered no problems. Practice makes perfect. We are open for suggestions on further improving next years show. EMERY and TOM want to thank all who worked, all our sponsors and all who attended the show. CHARLIE is a Charter member and has attended and worked at every one of our 27 Car Shows… that’s pretty amazing… and good buddy RICH has been at almost every one of them too !!! THANKS GUYS… We had loads of Door Prizes (SOMEBODY COUNTED THEM – 100 !!!) They were handled by GARY and JOANNE GELINAS. Thanks !!! ANITA, MO& PAT, the GAUDETS and TOM donated a bunch. We sent out around 500 flyers to Car Show people of other years. There were several thousand flyers printed up at no charge by BUD ARBO and GARY REED for distribution by mail and by hand at other car shows and by display in other locations. MO and BOB BREAULT handled the Vendors. Finding room for all of them proved difficult at times but thanks Civic Center. to the expertise and advice of BUD ARBO, MO & BOB made it go. Thanks to ALL VOLUNTEERS – You know who you are !!! We had a whole gang of guys working hard to get all the SHOW CARS into the lot and parked. The Front Gate Guys and the Registration Girls kept the cars moving in an dout very smoothly. We danced and sang and listened for attendance prize numbers put on the PA system by our DJ – Eddie Sullivan, Jr!!! RICH LETARTE handled our Registration dollars. Around lunch – time we fed 62 lunches to our hungry troops, paid for by Mid-State, thanks to our ‘runners’ PAM & STEVE P. for keeping us supplied !!! We’re not going to list all the names for fear of missing someone – you were ALL a great help. Everyone did an excellent job, so, remember, whatever you did this year, we’ll do the same again next year.
AUTOMOTIVE AWARD – We celebrated the 2 Tech Award winners. John LeBlanc from Monty Tech was at the Show to receive his award, STAS presented it to him toward the end of our Show Program… thanks for Magic in the Air at the waiting around for us to do that!!! SAT JUNE 3rd - FIRST CHURCH TEMPLETON - .A cruise-in
on the common at Templeton’s Town Fair - sad to say this was a Rain-Out. Pouring rains and weathermen predicting them for the day, seem to keep most of our Club Members at home. Hope this doesn’t spell the coming weekends weather…
JUN 4th – GARLIC FESTIVAL – FITCHBURG – 28 members and
guests of the Mid-State Antique Auto Club Family who braved the steady light rains, were present at the Madonna of the Holy Rosary Church. The light rains lasted all day. The rain didn’t seem to deter anyone in the large umbrella crowd. They waited in line for many delectable Italian dishes. Some asked for take-home containers while some ate in the large tent. The Italian food was “SUPERB”. Pastas cooked to “al dente”, salsa pomadoro, calamare, veal or eggplant parmegiana, salsiccia, fried dough, aglio-olio ( garlic & olive oil ), oregano, Chianti, lasagna, tortellini, vino rosa, vino bianco, birra and spaghetti, just to name a few from la cucina.
